Vivement Dimanche! / Finally Sunday

Μυθοπλασία/Fiction, Γαλλία/France, 1982, 111’, α/μ/b&w, Με ήχο/Sound

Truffaut’s last film is a return to black-and-white photography, a farewell to cinema, a compendium of his filmography and an homage to Hitchcock and the recurring theme of most of his films — a man accused of a crime of which he’s innocent. A real-estate broker is prime suspect of the murders of his wife and her lover. Following closely the components of the genre — the looks, the night, the shadow, the heroin’s glamour — Truffaut actualizes his objective, to make “ a good film for Saturday night”, as he said in an interview for Première in February 1983.

Μυθοπλασία/Fiction, Γαλλία, 1976, 118’, Εγχρ./Color, Με ήχο/sound

A film on fetishistic love, a theme also recurring often in Hitchcock’s films. A man, who doesn’t love women as such but adores their calves, ultimately pays the price by his death. The film opens and closes with his funeral, in which only women attend. “I was interested in showing a man completely alone[...] His loneliness is apparently inhabited, but the only one he can trust is the viewer” says Truffaut in an interview with Peter Michel Ladiges.
