A woman’s way

Μυθοπλασία/Fiction, Ελλάδα/Greece, 2009 , 111’ 35mm, Έγχρ./Color, Mε ήχο/Sound

Towards the end of this story of originary violence, abuse, abandonment and forbidden love, the protagonist, trans diva Strella, takes a walk in the city. Watch out for an Athens ready-to-dismantle-in-Crisis; but also for what it was to become, in the decade after the film: the stage for a spectacular articulation of demands, political insurgence, havoc, violence, new movements, popular wins and grave losses. This is a hugely influential film that suggested a new queer family is doable, in the same way as a new queer Greece might still be offstage, yet is also a possibility, an event-to-come.
