The section “Athenian Premieres” consists of 6 films. Honoring once again the great auteur Pedro Costa, we bring to the Athenian audience his latest film Vitalina Varela, of which the female lead with the same name won the Golden Leopard for Best Actress in the Locarno Film Festival, with her true gut-wrenching story. From Brazil, in a European co-production, we feature the film about an Amazonian Indian The Fever, by Maya Da-Rin, which explores the relationship of the indigenous people with the local society, and gave to its protagonist Regis Myrupu the Golden Leopard for Film Actor in the Locarno Film Festival. Ap- pealing is the lyrical documentary While we are here, by Clar- issa Campolina and Luiz Pretti. From the Romanian New Wave, the film Thou Shalt Not Kill, by Cătălin Rotaru and Gabi Virginia Șarga, decries corruption rings in hospital milieus. The English film Around the Sun by Oliver Crimpas intrigues with the scien- tific references to parallel universes from the 17th century and the way they are incorporated in the tableau of the love story. Lastly, the Serbian film Doctor Ray and the devils is a comical biography of the American director Nicholas Ray, about the time he was in Tito’s Yugoslavia. For us, it is an opportunity to honor Dinko Tucaković, an important figure of the Yugoslav Black Wave and a great friend of the Greek Film Archive.
