In an emptied industrial city two young women discover and destabilize sexuality, kinship, urban environment and friendship. The shade of a dying father looms large, as does the ghost of his (and Greece’s) lost development projects. Shot in the modernist coastal town of Aspra Spitia (built for the workers of Pechiney Alluminium in the 1960s), this is a feminist coming of age, which also works as an allegory of Greece’s wayward path to modernization. Directed by Athina Rachel Tsangaris who at the same period signed as the producer of Yorgos Lanthimos’s major films Dogtooth and Alps.
