Matchbox

They attack each other violently, mostly (but not only) verbally; they shout; they lose control; they reach their psychological, bodily, metaphorical, biological, narrative limits. All this, they call family, a modern Greek, nouveau riche, entrepreneurial family. In its first presentation, we saw Matchbox as a provocation. Later it became an endless source of jokes circulating on the Greek internet and repeated in other films and plays. Only recently did we realize that it had been pointing to something that was already wrong – but which we then lacked the vocabulary to name and frame. A history of what has been called the «Greek Weird Wave» could start at exactly that point.
