Ernesto is a successful painter, an ex-communist and profoundly atheist. He is involved in the beatification of his mother that has been requested by his brothers. As if this were not sufficient, his son wants to go to religious education classes at school because he wants to fit in with his peers. His mother’s memory, her beguiling smile, opens up a whirl of unexpected events. Ernesto will have to revise the past and face the present.
