The film is part of a diptych of restored portraits by Klonaris/Thomadaki, along with Chutes. Désert. Syn by Katerina Thomadaki. In the words of Maria Klonari (1983): “The portrait approached as a privileged moment of encounter between two subjects: the one that films and the one that is filmed. In front of my camera Parvaneh Navai acts as a mediator who comes in contact with the energies of nature and lets them penetrate her, at the same time as her own inner energy radiates and resounds in the forest (“selva” in Italian). The camera amplifies and extends its presence by transforming the forest into an imaginary space. The camera becomes a paintbrush. Trances-dances, out of body-projection”.
